capt_ed writes: Friday morning we headed out of CBI for the Tower and some grouper, but I was looking hard at that big temperature break at the Steeples.
Seas were sloppy and the wind was a whistling and I could not find a grouper at the Tower, so I motored on out to that Steeples temperature break about 1030. The chicken dolphin and football blackfin were there. We had a couple of triples on the dolphin and that is always fun when only two people are in the boat. Hooked one tuna on the long line with a Penn 50 and he was not big enough to set the drag off, so we (unknowingly) trolled him until some thing a lot bigger bit him in half. Finished up the day with a nice blackfin as we were trolling west and came home with a few dolphin and tuna plus one nice King.
A fun day, but a little wet going out; but who cares as long as you get some fish! Water temperature was 74.9 and most of the bites were on dark colors, 11:00 until 2:00 was the best bite.

 Calling All Blue Water Fisherman..... It's time for the 2008 Wrightsville Beach Spring Challenge presented by The Cape Fear Blue Water Fishing Club. This promises to be one of the premier Tournament in Southeastern North Carolina. Tournament is open to all fisherman. Additional information, and tournament brochure can be downloaded from our web-site.
Dates are as follows: April 23rd-26th
April 23rd. Captains Meeting 6:30PM @ Wrightsville Beach Marina Club House followed by the Captains Party hosted by Blue Water Grill
Fishing Days are two out of three Thursday April 24th, Friday April 25th or Saturday April 26th
Look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday April 23rd.

TITLE: Tidal Salt Marsh Creeks, Carolina Bays, Long Leaf Pine Savanna: Natural Treasures of Southeastern North Carolina
Join author, ecologist and educator Andy Wood for a lively presentation about one of North America's greatest natural treasures; the eco-region known as Southeastern North Carolina. From its estuarine creeks that connect coastal salt marshes with bottomland hardwood swamps, to evergreen shrub thickets interspersed with long leaf pine savanna, this part of the world and its unique and complex assemblage of habitats support over 800 species of plants that in turn support a wealth of birds, fishes, amphibians and other native wildlife. In this lively and engaging presentation, Andy carries participants into the realms of the common and unusual plants and animals that call this region their home.
What will be the effects of the proposed container facility on the Cape Fear River have on of the system?
How much has the sewage spills into the creeks effected the life of the waterway?
Also April 223rd Captains Party for the Spring Challenge Blue Water Open....Check out our web-site.....
With all the windy weather not alot of fishing going on, still accepting entries into the AMOT IMOT & BMOT's, as well as 2008 club dues. Also information about the upcoming Spring Challenge Blue Water Open.

Capt_Rich writes: Fishing Reports: I had 2 reports on Bottom Fishing "Keeper" had a 11 Red Grouper on Thursday, "Reelaxation" had 7 Grouper 4 Reds & 3 Gags (one was 18#). Offshore reports are starting to come in: Sea Ker went Thursday and got 2 Wahoos, also on Thursday "Reality Check" had 7/8 Blackfins, 1 Yellow Fin, 1 Dolphin, and some Wahoo... Way to go Teak..... Don't forget to send me any fishing reports & I'll try to post them weekly.....Capt. Rich |

Join the Cape Fear Bluewater Fishing Club
for its Annual Boat Parade & “Blessing of the Fleet”!
Boats of all sizes and shapes welcome! Open to all boating enthusiasts!
Boats will line up at 10:30am in the Intercoastal waterway near Sea Path Marina. The parade will move down Mott’s Channel and past Seapath Marina, where each boat will be “blessed” for the coming fishing and boating season. Boats will be on Channel 69.
History of the Blessing of the Fleet………
The Blessing of the Fleet is a tradition dating back to ancient Italy and even biblical times. At the beginning of the fishing season, the fishing fleet would gather to honor those who have lost their lives at sea, to seek safe passage to and from port and to ask God for abundant catches. It was a time of reflection and great festivity for the fishermen, their families and their communities.
Today, many communities all over the world celebrate their commercial and recreational fishing and boating fleets with a Blessing of the Fleet. The Cape Fear Bluewater Fishing Club is proud to bring this tradition to the boating enthusiasts of Southeastern North Carolina.

| Spring Cleaning equals free admission at the Fort Fisher Aquarium |

If you donate your old rods and reels to the Fort Fisher Aquarium, you will receive free admission, and you can feel good that someone will get some use out of that old gear. Your rods and reels do not have to be in perfect working order as the aquarium has a volunteer who will repair them.
So what are you waiting on; get those old rods and reels out of the corner and go to the Aquarium.
The aquarium just added the Poison Dart frog exhibit and I had never seen a real live poison dart frog; bet most of you have not seen one either.
The aquarium has divers in the big tank with the sharks and rays every day at 10:30 and again at 2:30, you should try to catch one of these dives!
If you have some gear you would like to donate, but don’t have time to take it to the aquarium, contact me and I will get it to them (mroplanner@yahoo.com) Hope you have a great 2008 season and if that new rod and reel really helps - let me know.
